How to make a simple pillow / cushion cover with a zip

Here's an example from my Etsy store.

You will need
Two same size fabric pieces
One zipper slightly longer than the length of your fabric pieces.

Instructions
1.  Iron your fabric pieces so they are flat.
 2. Fold and iron a hem about 1.5cm along one side at the bottom of each of the fabric pieces.
 3. Pin the folded-over side of one of the fabric pieces to the zipper. Align the fabric edge so half of the with of the zipper teeth is covered. The zip will overhang slightly on each side of the fabric.
 4. Attach the zipper foot to your sewing machine  and set the machine to straight stiching. Sew zip into place keeping close to the zipper teeth.
5. Pin the hem-side of the other fabric piece to the zip making sure not to leave a gap. You do not want the ziper teeth to show.
6. Machine sew the zip into place.
 7. Open the zip about half-way. Fold the pillow case in half, right sides facing inwards.  Pin the remaining three sides of the pillow together.
8. Make sure that the zip is aligned at the corners.
9. Switch to the regular presser foot on your sewing machine. Sew the re-maining three sides about 1.5cm from the edge. Take care to sew back and forth at the start and finish to make sure the threads are secure and will not unravel.
10. Snip off any excess fabric from the corners, this will help to make the pillow cover look neater once turned back the right way.
11. Carefully trim excess zipper from the edges. Turn your pillow.

12. Put your pillow in pride of place where everyone can see it. Text all your friends and post it on Facebook.
